Early years? From Pennsylvania, Ron Paul’s parents were dairy farmers. Growing up, Ron worked his way through high school and college and eventually earned his MD in 1961.

Did you know? During his medical career, he served as a military surgeon, and delivered more than 4,000 babies, offering much of his work for free or at a reduced cost to the poor.

How did he get into politics? Ron Paul began his political stint in 1976, when he won a special election as a Texas congressman. He lost the general election six months later but won a rematch two years later.

What's he known for? Ron Paul served as a Texas congressman from 1979 until 1985, where he is known to have proposed legislation to decrease congressional pay at the rate of inflation.

Hot issues? At the top of his agenda are lowering taxes, border security, and the war in Iraq.
