His father was governor of Michigan, the Urban and Housing Secretary, and a presidential candidate in 1968; and his mother was a 1970 U.S. senate candidate. After serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France, Romney earned a BA and then a law and business degree from Harvard.

Political experience? He won a Massachusetts senate nomination in 1994, but lost a reelection the following term. In 2002, Romney ran for Massachusetts governor and won. He served as governor between 2003 and 2007.
