Duncan Hunter

Officially dropped out of the race: January 19, 2008

Military and work experience? Raised in Northern California, Duncan Hunter entered the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from high school. After serving in the Vietnam War, Hunter received his law degree in San Diego, and then opened up a storefront legal office where he provided legal assistance to the local Hispanic community (often without compensation).

When did he go into politics? Hunter was first elected to his current job in the House of Representatives in 1981 to serve the northern and eastern parts of San Diego.

What's he known for? Among his accomplishments are authoring the Secure Fence Act, which extended the San Diego Fence 854 miles across four states and was signed into law last year by President Bush.

Hot issues? Hunter’s most-talked-about issues include border security, the war on terror, and fair trade laws.
