Officially dropped out of the race: January 25, 2008

Where's he from? A Cleveland native, Dennis Kucinich’s father was a Croatian truck driver, and his mother, an Irish American homemaker. Dennis attended Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, and then eagerly jumped into local politics after graduation.

Political resume? Kucinich, a second-time presidential candidate hopeful, began his political career at the young age of 23 when he was elected to the Cleveland City Council. He served a two-year term as mayor of Cleveland when he was 31 but lost a reelection bid the following term. In 1996, Kucinich was elected to the US House of Representatives where he has served since.

Hot issues? Kucinich places health care, the war in Iraq, and job creation among his top three priorities.
